SANTIAGO, Chile – Carlos Sainz extended his overall lead in the Dakar Rally by finishing second in Thursday’s sixth stage to Stephane Peterhansel.
Peterhansel claimed a record 53rd stage victory across the Atacama Desert, beating Sainz by 47 seconds, and nearly 9 minutes ahead of third place Mark Miller of the United States.
Robby Gordon finished 17th, suffering two flat tires. He was 49 minutes, 17 seconds off the pace. He completed the stage in 1 hour, 48 minutes, 25 seconds. He dropped from fourth to sixth in the overall standings .. Details

Davey Cathels (Nth Narrabeen / Sydney) capped off the perfect preparation for the coming Billabong Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Junior Championships by winning the Quiksilver Jetty Surf Pro Junior at Jan Juc Beach in Victoria today.
Cathels was in sensational form on this final day, scoring four excellent-to-outstanding 8 and 9-point rides on his way to demolishing his opponents through the Quarters, Semis and Final.
